Finding it hard to charge your EV? New state-of-the art charging points are due to go into eight of the council’s long stay car parks across the district!
The electric vehicle (EV) chargers, managed by Blink Charging UK, will provide residents, businesses and visitors with greater access to reliable and user-friendly charging facilities.
The new EV chargers will be going into the following car parks:
- Letchworth – Garden Square and Hillshott
- Baldock – The Twitchell
- Hitchin – Bancroft, The Lairage and Woodside
- Royston – Civic Centre and The Warren
Ian Fullstone, Director for Place at North Herts Council, said: “We want to ensure residents are able to access EV chargers so locations were chosen that are close to large numbers of homes that do not have off-street parking. By working with Blink Charging UK, we are helping to accelerate the roll-out of a modern and accessible charging network to help enable people to make the switch to EVs. This initiative is a key part of our sustainability efforts and will contribute to the district’s target of being net zero by 2040.”
Work starting - w/c 21 April
There will be some disruption for up to five days at each installation site and notices will be posted on-site at least one week in advance. Blink will also be notifying local residents that may be directly affected.
Alex Calnan, Managing Director of Blink Charging UK, added: “This partnership with North Herts Council is a significant step forward in expanding the UK’s EV charging network. As more drivers transition to electric vehicles, it’s essential that we continue to provide accessible and high-quality charging infrastructure.”
North Herts Council was awarded £135,000 from the government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) under the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS) to deliver EV charging infrastructure for residents without off-street parking. Blink is providing the rest of the funding.
