North Herts residents are invited to have their say on proposed changes to local parish electoral arrangements as part of the ongoing Community Governance Review (CGR). This is an opportunity to share your views on the draft proposals that have been developed from the feedback received during North Herts Council’s first consultation, which closed in October 2024.
The deadline for this new consultation and responses is 9 May 2025.
Key proposed changes:
- A proposal to align parish council elections with district council elections, so they are all held in the same year.
- For some parishes, there are suggestions to alter boundaries and/or adjust the number of parish councillors.
- Proposals to change some parish ward boundaries.
- The establishment of new Town Councils in Baldock, Hitchin, and Letchworth.
This review could impact local governance, and we want to hear from you. Whether you agree or disagree with the draft proposals, your feedback is essential.

Melanie Stimpson, Returning Officer at North Herts Council, said: “Parish and Town Councils are the most local tier of government and play an important role in terms of community empowerment at a local level. The Community Governance Review offers an opportunity for residents to shape the future of local governance. Whether you agree with the proposals or not, we want to hear from you as this could affect you, including financially, and your feedback will directly influence the final decisions due to be taken by Council on 10 July. We look forward to hearing from you!”
