North Herts Council have launched a new mobile app to help residents manage their waste and recycling – following the introduction of three-weekly collections.
As the new cycle can be a little more difficult to remember which bin goes out when, the new app has been launched today (Wednesday, November 5) to help residents keep on top of collections. It works by sending tailored reminders direct to their phone or device, including changes for bank holidays.
The free app, available to download on both Apple and Android devices, offers:
- Personalised bin day reminders
- A clear guide on what goes into each bin
- Links to local councillors and nearby council-run facilities such as car parks, parks and play areas
- The latest council news and updates
Residents can also be redirected to the council website to report missed bins or raise other issues. In the coming months, these features will be built directly into the app.

Cllr Amy Allen, Executive Member for Environment at North Herts Council, said: “More and more of us are turning to apps to take care of everyday tasks like banking or booking travel, so our new app taps into this shift, bringing essential waste information right to residents’ fingertips – from bin reminders to recycling guidance.
“It’s a small but practical step that will help households adapt to the new collection system and enable them to recycle more. We also expect the app to reduce the number of waste-related calls to our customer service team, freeing up time to support residents with more complex queries, who may need extra help.”
