North Herts Council has launched the North Herts Skills Hub to help residents and businesses access free training, develop skills, and unlock employment opportunities.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Skills Hub offers free access to hundreds of online courses via the SEEDL platform. These include IT skills, customer service, sector-specific training, and professional development – perfect for anyone looking to enter work, switch careers, or progress in their current job. Courses are available both live and on-demand to suit different schedules.

The Skills Hub features two dedicated platforms:

  • Work Ready – for job seekers, career switchers, and those returning to work.
  • Work Smart – for employees and businesses looking to upskill their workforce.

In addition to online training, local businesses will be supported through the Hertfordshire Opportunities Portal (HOP) – the county’s skills and employment service. Each business will be matched with a dedicated adviser who will assess their skills needs, develop a tailored plan, and connect them with training and recruitment support.

Cllr Tamsin Thomas, Executive Member for Enterprise at North Herts Council, said:

“The North Herts Skills Hub is about empowering people and businesses to grow. Whether you’re looking for a new job, changing careers, or developing your team’s skills, this free support is here to help. We’re proud to invest in opportunities that benefit our residents and local economy.”

North Herts Council’s learning solution is amongst the first of its kind around the UK and is launched in partnership with SEEDL, a world pioneering ‘Virtual Live Learning Subscription Service’.

Joanna Nash, SEEDL’s Chief Learning Officer said, “SEEDL has grown rapidly since its launch and we’re really excited to do more to support local economies. Our partnership with North Herts Council, is really going to be game changing for businesses in the area. SEEDL and North Herts Council will help users, learn and develop new life skills. SEEDL and North Herts Council will help retain employees of business rate payers plus tempt new employees to their businesses. With learning being such a key part of candidate attraction and retention, we’re delighted to help these local businesses have a competitive edge.”
