Feed Up Warm Up

PR Date: Monday, 16 March 2020 - 4:30pm

North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Hitchin Committee awarded grants to two community groups in Hitchin at its meeting last week*.

The charity Feed Up Warm Up received £676 to purchase publicity materials and uniforms for its staff.  The organisation was set up in 2018 to help the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless. They run drop-in centres in Hitchin and Stevenage where those in need can visit to get food, clothing, care and support. The Hitchin sessions runs every Wednesday evening from the Scout Hut at Our Lady’s Catholic Church.
Shane Cole who set up the Hitchin based 'Feed Up Warm Up' project, said: “ We are thrilled to receive a grant from NHDC and aim to use the funds to spread ourselves about more with news media and make our staff stand out with new uniforms.”

Climb Hitchin were also awarded £350 to assist with the cost of training more indoor climbing instructors. Climb Hitchin is a volunteer-led charity group which was established in April 2019 and runs every Thursday at the Priory School in Hitchin.  The organisation provides instruction so that adults (18+) can learn to climb safely and access indoor and outdoor climbing experiences.

Hannah Morgan-Gray, Co-Founder and Chair of Climb Hitchin said: “Climb Hitchin is delighted to have been awarded grant funding from NHDC's Hitchin Area Committee.  The funds will enable us to train additional climbing instructors which will allow us to increase our adult climbing club sessions at The Priory School Climbing Wall in Hitchin from fortnightly to weekly.  Since Climb Hitchin started in April 2019, we have been overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to climb as sessions are often booked up two months in advance by both beginners and experienced climbers alike.  By doubling the amount of sessions we offer, more people in North Herts will be able to access the wonderful world of climbing.”

Cllr Ian Albert, Chairman of the Hitchin Committee said: "We are pleased to help support these two very different projects by awarding this grant funding and wish them the very best for their work in the future."
