NHDC and NHH nominated for an award
North Hertfordshire District Council (NHDC) in partnership with North Hertfordshire Homes has been shortlisted for an award in the category Best Local Authority Recycling Initiative.
The nomination is for their joint project that helped to reduce contamination at flats’ recycling bins across the district.
The winners will be announced at the Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management which will take place on 18 May at the Landmark Hotel, London.
The two organisations worked together to deliver a joined up approach that helps promote greater recycling and a faster, proactive response to contamination issues.
Vaughan Watson, Head of Leisure and Environmental Services, said: "Our waste teams together with North Hertfordshire Homes worked hard on the initiative to help everyone in flats in the district understand the importance of recycling, the costs associated with sending waste to landfill and the detrimental effect that can have on our environment. We are proud to have our work recognised in this way and we look forward to the ceremony on the 18th."
Mark Freeman from North Hertfordshire Homes Estate Services said: "It’s good news that our joint initiative has been recognised. Close team work with NHDC, better bin positioning and clearer signage means customers now find it easier to recycle, saving on waste clearance costs and keeping communal bin areas cleaner".
