NHDC launches COVID-19 Community Support Fund

Council Offices in Letchworth Garden City

PR Date: Friday, 5 June 2020 - 12:15pm

North Herts District Council (NHDC) has launched a Community Fund to support local charities and community groups that are providing essential services to the community during the coronavirus pandemic.

The fund seeks to support organisations which are either under increased pressure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or newly created to help their local area.

The fund will be targeted towards three specific areas:

-           Provision of food and essentials

-           Mental Health support (including loneliness caused by isolation)

-           Domestic Abuse support

Cllr Ian Albert, NHDC’s Executive Member for Finance and IT said: “Through our new fund, we want to be able to help groups who might be struggling to keep services going, so that when all this is over, we still have the thriving voluntary and community sector we have today. The fund operates on a rolling process, so there is no deadline to apply, applications can be submitted at any time.”

Cllr Judi Billing, NHDC’s Executive Member for Community Engagement said: “Our Covid-19 Community Fund will give local charities and community groups access to funding to sustain their amazing work on the ground as they work tirelessly to support vulnerable people at this difficult time.”
