NHDC launches volunteer achievement awards in North Herts

Chair's Volunteer Achievement Awards 2021

PR Date: Friday, 4 December 2020 - 9:00am

North Hertfordshire District Council’s (NHDC) Chair’s Volunteer Achievement Awards are now open for nominations.

These awards recognise individuals who voluntarily help to support their communities, and work tirelessly give up their spare time to help improve the lives and the environment of others in North Herts.

There are four different categories for the awards:

  • Caring about COVID-19 Community Support Volunteer Award – for volunteers who have gone over and above to help their community during the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Dedication Award – for long service in voluntary or community work, recognising individuals who have dedicated their time on a regular basis for many years to help their community.
  • Green Award – for helping to keep North Herts clean, safe and green, celebrating those unsung heroes who run gardening projects, organise litter picks, help with walking buses or encourage more people to cycle etc.
  • Young Star Award – for a young person aged 24 or under who has made a difference to their local community.

The deadline for nominating volunteers for awards is midnight on Friday 18 December.

Cllr Terry Tyler, Chair of NHDC said: “This year it is more important than ever that we celebrate our unsung volunteer heroes across the North Herts district. So many people have stepped up to help their local community in the crisis, helping with collecting shopping and prescriptions for neighbours, reaching out to those in difficulty due to their work stopping during lockdown, setting up neighbourhood food banks and helplines, the list goes on. The voluntary work that has been going on is really incredible. If you know of someone who you think deserves recognition for their efforts this year then please step forward and nominate them.”

Volunteers can be nominated online by going to www.north-herts.gov.uk/awards

The awards have backing from the Comet. Judging and decisions will be made by Friday 11 January 2021. Award winners will be videoed, and the video will be streamed on the NHDC YouTube Channel and broadcast live on Zoom at the Chair’s Civic Fundraiser on 26 February 2021.
