Plant a free tree

Tree sapling

To help tackle climate change in North Herts, the Council has 10,000 tree saplings to give away.

You can help improve local biodiversity and air quality, and help reduce your own carbon footprint by planting your very own tree sapling to grow and nurture at home.

All you need is a suitable place to plant a tree, set back from roads, boundaries and buildings so they're not a nuisance as they grow. Ideally the saplings need to be planted before February 2022.

Those who have already emailed us are invited to pick up their tree at one of the locations below, but fear not, if you haven’t contacted us you are also invited to turn up and take one.

All tree saplings are native to the UK and deciduous (they will shed their leaves each year) and although we cannot take requests, species will include field maple, silver birch, sweet cherry and hazel. Saplings are available for a small, medium or large space.
