Hitchin Cemetery

Hitchin Cemetery is located in St. John's Road and is available for burials of any faith.

Grave spaces cannot be pre-purchased and full burial grave spaces are no longer available for pre-purchases or immediate interment.

Cremated remains grave spaces currently have limited availability for immediate interment. Re-opening of existing grave spaces and already pre-purchased grave spaces are still taking place. There is a dedicated section for child burials in the new section of the cemetery with limited grave spaces available.

There is a chapel which may be used for services for an additional fee and holds approximately 50 attendees on fixed bench seating, with space for approximately a further 10 standing. The chapel has no music facilities installed and any music must be provided and operated by the family, a Minister or Celebrant or organiser of the funeral. We also provide the order of service books if required.

Access and parking

• Pedestrian access is available at all times to the old cemetery from St John's Road or Cemetery Road, all day and evening 365 days a year
• The new extension can be accessed from Cemetery Road and pedestrian access is available all day and evening 365 days a year
• There is no designated car parking in both extensions of the cemetery. Limited parking is available off St John's Road and Cemetery Road
• Specific limited vehicular access to both extensions may be permitted between dawn and dusk via the light sensor gates
• A short walk from the town centre and 25 minutes from the railway station
