North Hertfordshire is a large rural district with approximately 125,000 residents with four historic towns, Hitchin, Baldock, Royston and Letchworth Garden City and many villages of varying scales, identity, and characteristics. Much of the District is made up of beautiful rural countryside embracing parts of the Chilterns AONB.
The Council has a clear vision: to make North Hertfordshire a district in which everyone who lives, works or visits is able to flourish.
The Council has just adopted its new Local Plan and the Council’s planning service is growing; this is an exciting time for an experienced planning professional to join our Strategic Planning Team.
As well as helping to implement the adopted Local Plan, you will take a role in shaping and directing the next review of the Plan. This will shape the future of the District over the period to the early 2040s in the context of our declared climate emergency and an evolving planning system.
You will be responsible for managing diverse relationships with some of our eight neighbouring districts to identify and deliver cross-boundary projects that secure the best planning outcomes for North Hertfordshire as well as providing oversight of other planning and monitoring activities within the District in our small and friendly but growing team set within the wider planning department.
The successful candidate will be an experienced and qualified team player with membership of (or eligibility for) the RTPI and in-depth knowledge of key areas of planning policy. You are creative and enthusiastic about making a positive difference for the residents of North Hertfordshire.
The Council operates a generous flexi-time scheme as well as offering a number of other benefits, including a car user allowance, free car parking and the payment of professional fees. If you want to develop your career with a positive and forward-thinking organisation, we would like to hear from you.
If you would like an informal chat about the role, you can contact Nigel Smith, Strategic Planning Manager on 01462 474847 or Deborah Coates, Principal Strategic Planning Officer on 01462 474353.
