Shoppers in North Herts can pick up a free tote bag in the lead-up to Christmas in a bid to encourage them to shop locally and support their high street.

We are continuing to support local traders in towns and villages across the region with a ‘Love Your Herts High Street’ tote bag giveaway for residents who choose to buy from local businesses over big name brands.

Councillor Sam Collins, Executive Member for Enterprise and the Arts, explained: “Covid has had a negative impact on our town centres and many businesses face the growing threat of internet shopping. These traders contribute to the vitality of our town centres, offer employment to local people and provide a very personal level of service you only get from local retailers.”

He continued: “To further support the high street we are giving away ‘Love Your Herts High Street’ tote bags, to encourage people back into town centres and into our local shops.”

The free tote bags, made from a renewable and sustainable material, are available while stocks last from:

  • Letchworth BID office, The Arcade
  • Hitchin BID office, The Churchyard
  • Hitchin Councillors' Surgery, Market Square, Saturday 4 December, 10.30am-12pm
  • Baldock Community Centre
  • Baldock Christmas Market, Saturday 4 December
  • Royston Coombes Community Centre
