Is there someone in your community who deserves an award?

The deadline for nominating someone for the 2022 Chair’s Community Recognition Awards is 9 January.

We are looking for community-minded individuals who have gone above and beyond to make a real difference to other people. Perhaps someone who has dedicated their life to helping others or recently made a big impact on a person, family or group in the community? Someone who has improved the health and wellbeing of people in North Herts? An eco-warrior or an exceptional young person?

Winners will receive a beautiful, engraved glass trophy and gift voucher at a ceremony in early March, hopefully in-person. Judges include Cllr Val Bryant, Chair of the Council, representatives from Willmott Dixon as sponsors, and Anne Suslak, Editor of The Comet as media sponsors.

Cllr Val Bryant, Chair of the Council, said: “The Chair’s Awards are a fantastic way for the council to recognise some of the special people in the district who are going out of their way to make a difference. We know people don’t do it for the glory, but it’s important for the community to give thanks, and it inspires others to think about how they may help others.

“It’s been a tough 20 months or so with the Covid pandemic – which has not gone away – and we know there has been a wealth of community spirit throughout the district with people looking after each other – we want to hear all about them."

This year’s Award categories are:

Young Star Award (19 or under)
Do you know a young person who has contributed to their community, inspired others or given back? Someone who has transformed their own life, overcome challenges to reach their goal or positively impacted the lives of others? Let’s give them the recognition they deserve!

Health Award
Has one of your friends shared healthy recipes or started a walking club? Has a PE teacher gone above and beyond their usual role? Does someone spring to mind who has really supported others to get their mental health back on track? We’d love to celebrate them.

Green Award
Has a person or group made the community a better place to live? Has someone been key in organising litter picks, gardening projects, tree planting, walking buses or community recycling drives?  This award is for them.

Caring Award
Do you know someone who has really gone the extra mile over the past year? Maybe someone has helped do your shopping week in, week out, supported you through a tough time or gone above and beyond for the community. Help us celebrate them.

Dedication Award
You might know someone who has dedicated their time on a regular basis for many years to help their community, the sort of person who is just always there to help out, come rain or shine. This is the sort of person we are looking to celebrate with this award.

Please note, we can only accept nominations for people who have benefitted those in the district of North Herts.
