Wilbury Hills Cemetery

Wilbury Hills is our flagship cemetery on the northern edge of Letchworth Garden City. It was planned to cater for the diverse needs of our community, with a mausoleum building and separate spaces for different religious denominations.

The cemetery provides a wide variety of burial options, from woodland and meadowland burials to family plots or niche interments. The non-denominational chapel is available for services or meeting hire for a small fee. The Council provides a sound and visual system for music and videos, although any music must be provided and operated by the Minister, Celebrant or organiser of the funeral.

The cemetery was built to solve the shortage of burial space in North Hertfordshire and has been described as a ‘model’ for future cemeteries. It was designed as an inviting, inspiring place that extended the green space of Letchworth and the development won a Green Apple Award for Environmental Best Practice.

Access and parking

• Vehicular and pedestrian access is via Stotfold Road
• Limited parking is available within the cemetery via the main gates, which open at dawn and close at dusk by an automated sensor. Outside of these times, access out of the cemetery can be gained by driving close to the gates to activate the automated gate release sensor
• Distance is just under 2 miles from train station and town centre
• Pedestrian access is available at all times
