Council Commitment for a Film-Friendly North Herts

On 19 July, the 10-year anniversary of the apocalyptic sci-fi comedy The World’s End, filmed in Letchworth, North Herts Council has launched its campaign #LightsCameraNorthHerts to showcase the fantastic locations available for filming in North Herts.

The council has signed up to work with Fame Pro, a film permit agency who support councils up and down the country with processing filming applications smoothly and quickly. Fame Pro will also promote North Herts to production companies for filming opportunities, which are a great source of publicity for the area, encouraging tourists and attracting visitors, which in turn boosts the economy.

Cllr Keith Hoskins, North Herts Council’s Executive Member for Enterprise and Arts said: "Being a film friendly council is about maximising the benefits of bringing productions to the district and making it a positive experience for everyone involved.

"We’ve already had a wealth of filming taking place across the district – My Policeman, Dr Foster, Tell Me Everything and of course the Worlds End. I never tire of seeing Windmill Hill featured in the BBC ident ahead of the news! We want to expand that even further and encourage more potential film and television productions to come here and put North Herts firmly on the map!

"The economic and tourism benefits of a production filming in our area and the jobs it can create for local crews, as well as local businesses across the supply chain, is something we don't want North Herts to miss out on.”

Kelly Mikulla, Managing Director at Fame Pro, said: “We are thrilled to work with North Herts Council to help increase the profile of the district as a film friendly destination.  FAME Pro’s extensive experience and contacts within the sector will attract filmmakers and create further economic benefits for local suppliers.  We will be the first point of contact for production companies and will provide our expertise and guidance to ensure productions run smoothly.”

The council has also published its Code of Practice, which outlines the general requirements and the protocols expected from production companies to ensure that standards and consideration by all parties is a priority.
