Garden waste customers to receive free 2 months extension

PR Date: Thursday, 25 June 2020 - 9:45am

Garden waste subscribers in North Herts will receive two additional months on their current 12-month subscription, following a six-week suspension of the paid for service, as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The extension, agreed at a meeting of North Herts District Council’s Cabinet on 23 June, is to acknowledge the disruption to the garden waste collection service and the inconvenience caused during the seasonal peak of garden waste production. NHDC will shortly be contacting all subscribers to advise them of the extension, which means that the current subscription period now runs until 30 September. Details of the new subscription year and how to sign up will be sent to all current subscribers over the coming weeks and will include details of our new direct debit payment option.

Cllr Elizabeth Dennis-Harburg, Executive Member for Recycling and Waste Management said: “We would like to thank all garden waste customers for their patience and understanding during these very challenging times. Unfortunately, due to staffing shortages we had to prioritise collection of refuse and recycling, which is why we had to suspend the garden waste service.

“We are therefore offering this extension to existing subscribers of the service to acknowledge the inconvenience caused. Thank you once again for supporting our bin crews during these difficult times.”
