Services affected by storms

North Herts Council building

Due to a red weather warning being issued for Storm Eunice, bringing extremely strong winds across our district today, a number of council and partner services will be affected, including:

  • Fallen trees – there are a number down but due to the risk to contractors we are only dealing with high priority trees e.g. those causing major public obstruction to highways/footpaths.
  • Recycling collections – please don’t put out your paper box today. If you have, it will still be emptied but we want to minimise the risk of paper debris and boxes blowing in our streets.
  • Leisure centres – North Herts Leisure Centre in Letchworth, Hitchin Swimming Centre, Archers Health and Fitness Club in Hitchin and Royston Leisure Centre will be closed to ensure the safety of staff and visitors. The centres are due to reopen tomorrow morning.
  • Hertfordshire County Council recycling centres – all will be closed including Letchworth (Blackhorse Road) and Royston (Beverley Close, off York Way).
  • Our Customer Service Centre – available on the phone (01462 474000) or online only.

We are sorry for any inconvenience caused. Please bear with us as we work to return services to normal.

Please keep up to date with any changes to services via this website and social media, and you can sign up for email and text alerts to get the latest information about disruption to services like waste collections.

Please stay safe.
