Statement on pedestrian access at Hitchin Train Station

North Herts Council would like to assure residents that they are still very much committed to delivering the project of securing eastern pedestrian access at Hitchin Train Station alongside partners Network Rail and Hertfordshire County Council’s Strategic Transport and Rail team.

Cllr Ruth Brown, Deputy Leader of the Council and Executive Member for Planning and Transport said: “We feel it is crucial that we engage with our local community on potential options for eastern pedestrian access at Hitchin Train Station first and that our community’s views form the main driver of the proposal we submit. With that in mind, we will be consulting our community.”

Cllr Elizabeth Dennis-Harburg, Leader at North Herts Council and Hitchin Walsworth Ward Councillor said: “The council feels that there are too many unknowns surrounding securing the eastern pedestrian access project at Hitchin Station to be able to proceed at this time. We will continue to investigate potential risks alongside reviewing the results of our community consultation with our partners Network Rail and Hertfordshire County Council’s Strategic Transport and Rail team in anticipation of future Central Government Levelling Up Fund bidding opportunities.”
