Our waste contractor removes litter and empties public litter and on-street recycling bins across the district.
If you notice an overflowing litter bin, you can report it to us online:
Alternatively you can call our waste service contractor on 01462 474000 and choose the waste option.
Littering is illegal
Dropping litter is illegal. People who are caught depositing litter can be fined or prosecuted at court.
Authorised officers have the power to issue a fixed penalty notice of £75, as an alternative to prosecution in court. If the offender is convicted in court the fine could rise to £2,500.
Many of the common items of litter such as drinks cans, plastic bottles, paper and cardboard are recyclable. These can be placed in special on-street recycling bins so anyone can recycle when they are out and about.
There are recycle ‘on the go’ bins in:
- Great Ashby
We are looking into options to increase on street recycling in other areas of the district.
The dual litter bins will enable the segregation of litter to ensure we can capture items for recycling and reduce the amount of litter going to landfill.
Cigarette butts and chewing gum
We have also provided specific bins to dispose of cigarette butts and chewing gum in the main town centres to help reduce this litter on our streets. Please make sure you use these bins when disposing of these items.
